The Google Nexus 7 Tablet is arguably the most important product launch in Google’s history. The Tablet needs to be hugely successful for Google to close the gap with Apple. Additionally, Google is hoping the Nexus 7 owners will get their content from the Google Play store to grow that ecosystem.

So how is Google handling the launch? Miserably. Google allowed for interested buyers to pre-order their Nexus 7 from the aforementioned Play store, or you could pre-order the Tablet from Gamestop. So who do you think is getting their device first? So far it looks like going through Gamestop was the way to go.

If you bought the tablet through Google’s own store you paid for shipping, and you received it later than people who went through other channels. Gamestop even accepted trade-ins to help offset the device cost. Basically, if you bought Google’s tablet through Google, you got screwed.

Does this stumble mean Google needs to open up its own stores?
